NYC BUCKET LIST

Like most things in my life, I am extremely unprepared to move to New York City in TWO weeks.
I'm not packed - besides the stuff I never unpacked from last semester.
I haven't bought any of my textbooks - let's be honest, I'm probably not going to pay a stupid amount of money for books that will sit on a shelf and collect dust.
And I am generally mentally, emotionally, physically and financially unprepared to embark for the city.
So instead of being proactive and trying to get my shit together, I am going to make a bucket list of some of the things I want to do while living in NYC. Not only will this keep me in check, but gives me zero excuse for sitting on my ass while living in arguably the greatest city on earth.
1. 29Rooms
This is an event I will actually be attending and even though I have trouble expressing outward emotion, I am very excited. Not exactly sure if I will be able to navigate my way to Brooklyn alone by the beginning of September, but it'll be a learning experience.
Also, if you happen to be reading this and you are going to the second session on the10th, LET ME KNOW. [I am a friendless loser.]
2. Go to a Rooftop Bar
I don't particularly care for alcohol but I do appreciate a good view.
3. Eat My Way Through The City
Honestly, this could be a whole separate list in itself. Pizza, bagels, ice cream. You name it, I want it on my plate. I am so dedicated to this that when I see something I want while out shopping I ask myself, "What do you want more? This $16.99 top from Target or food that could change your life?"
Food always comes out on top.
However, I refuse to stand in a 2+ hour line to try some trendy unicorn-mermaid-rainbow food gimmick that people only want just so they can post it on Instagram. I AM HERE FOR THE REAL EATS.
[Side note: I don't know if a pizza crawl/tour is a thing (I'd assume so) but if it is, SIGN ME THE F*CK UP.]
4. Go to a Dog Meet Up
There is nothing that would make me happier than to be in a park surrounded by dogs. Luckily, this seems to be a pretty frequent occurrence in New York.
[I also just read there is a dog cafe opening up in December. Yes. Dogs. Yes.]
5. Museums
I like museums. Nobody bothers you, they are quiet, and keep you walking aimlessly for hours. This could most definitely be a list on its own as well.
[By the way, what is the least amount of money you can give during a pay-what-you-wish day without looking like a cheap asshole? Asking for a friend...]
6. Avoid Times Square like the Plague
This is kind of an anti-bucket list item but I'm hoping if I put this in writing the universe will respond in my favor. I will not be sad in the slightest if I don't go to New York's mecca of tourists and costumed characters that look like they are infested with lice and herpes. Been there, done that. No thank you.
7. Thrift/Vintage Shop
I will definitely be living my most frugal life while in NYC. My goal is to only spend money on necessities and experiences, rather than material items. But since New York is packed full of unique vintage and thrift stores, I think I can manage to spare ten bucks here and there on a good find.
8. Have Friends and Family Actually Come Visit Me
The amount of times I hear, "I can't wait to come visit you!" is surreal. If you can make the time to come see me, please do! I don't have class Thursday - Sunday this semester, so if you want a long weekend in the city, I am your girl.
9. The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree
Movies like Home Alone 2 and Eloise at the Plaza have fueled my NYC at Christmas dream for some time. Other than checking out the windows at Macy's and Bergdorf's, I absolutely have to stop and stare in awe at the Mother of all Christmas trees.
Ideally, I would love to go to the light up ceremony. Fingers crossed.
